FAQ'S

ANSWERS TO YOUR BURNING QUESTIONS!

What is Drag?

Drag is an art form that uses creativity and performance as a form of self expression and entertainment. We are proud to be an approachable, warm and recognisable facet of the Rainbow community.

Is Drag adult entertainment?

The more people and organisations can get behind the truth of Drag and what we represent then the harder it is for people to try and misrepresent our intentions, our special culture and the community we represent. We are performers and while some of our performances might be a little cheeky, it is no different to any other form of theatre for grown-up audiences.

I’ve never been to a Drag Show before - can I come?

YES - we have plenty of Drag virgins who become Drag converts in the audience every year! Drag is for everybody! Except the haters … But even then, we would welcome them with open arms and extra glitter if they can bring along an open heart and mind.

I don’t identify as part of the Rainbow community, is it appropriate for me to attend Palmy Drag Fest?

YES HENNY. We love an ally, and we have a huge crowd of allies that sing, dance and stand side-by-side with the Rainbow community every year.

Drag in Palmy? Is there anything I need to be aware of as a member of the Rainbow community to keep myself safe during Drag Fest?

Yes, Palmy does give agricultural realness - but it’s also a really special and inclusive space. We have support from our local MP, Tangi Utikere, the NZ Police, Palmerston North City Council, our Economic Development Agency, and local accommodation and hospitality providers. It’s important to always be cautious when it comes to safety, but we have a great community of LGBTQIA+ folks and allies that come together to make Palmy Drag Fest as safe as possible.

Can I bring my kids to the big Drag Show?

Parental guidance is recommended for the big show, but we do have a family-friendly Rainbow Fair that will feature some of our Queens. We also encourage everyone who wants to support the creativity and inclusiveness of Drag to support their local library when they run age-appropriate Drag Storytime events.

I don’t like Drag.

Life is like a box of chocolates and it’s fine to like different flavours. You don’t have to come to Palmy Drag Fest if you don’t want to - there are plenty of other ways you can show your support for our diverse and creative community.
